Decision Support Tools and Habitat Objectives

The science products being developed by the IWJV Science Teams fall into two broad categories:

  • Habitat Objectives: An assessment of the amount, type, and juxtaposition of habitat needed to sustain species or groups of species at continental goal levels. Habitat objectives for wetland-dependent birds will typically be created at the sub-BCR (landscape) scale due to the diffuse nature of wetlands in the Intermountain West.
  • Decision Support Tools: We are moving toward development of relational population-habitat tools (e.g., HABS Database) and spatially explicit decision-support tools (e.g., thunderstorm maps for breeding birds).
