Monitoring, Evaluation, and Applied Research
Monitoring, evaluation, and applied research constitute the “feedback loop” in the SHC framework used by the IWJV. Our Science Teams are in the process of articulating assumptions, identifying key uncertainties, and prioritizing evaluation of the assumptions on which we base our biological planning. This work will provide the basis for the development of a detailed Monitoring and Evaluation Plan in FY 2010. Our role is to initiate the following:
- Monitoring and Evaluation: We serve to catalyze the development and maturation of avian population monitoring programs that will feed population-habitat models and document demographic parameters specific to conservation objectives. In addition, we are working to help our partners monitor habitat conditions over time and track net landscape change.
- Applied Research: Each of the four IWJV Science Teams are identifying key uncertainties in their model development and then prioritizing those issues for future research. We are also working with other members of the science community to support needed research on priority birds, but are particularly focused on addressing key assumptions in our JV planning.
