SONEC wetlands

IWJV partnerships across the Southern Oregon-northeast California (SONEC) region have used North American Wetlands Conservation Act grants, funding from the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board and federal Farm Bill conservation programs to help private landowners maintain and improve flood irrigation practices that sustain important seasonal wetland habitats.  The IWJV’s SONEC coordinator works closely with key partners and stakeholders in both Oregon and California. This partnership also includes two biologists in Lake and Harney counties who deliver Farm Bill programs and plan habitat projects on private lands.  In 2016, the Natural Resources Conservation Service expanded the SONEC Working Wet Meadows Initiative by awarding $2.6 million for working wet meadows conservation efforts through its Regional Conservation Partnerships Program.
