our approach

The IWJV’s wetlands program achieves multiple benefits, from improved habitat for migratory birds and other wildlife to thriving human communities.

We work with agricultural producers, federal and state land managers, private corporations, and non-governmental organizations to achieve wetlands conservation that is relevant to people. 

Our wetlands conservation work focuses on habitats provided by flood-irrigated grass hay agriculture, managed wetlands, and saline lakes. We strive to provide wetland managers and partners with science and science-based tools to strategically tackle the threats to these habitats, as well as capacity and communications to get the job done.

Science to Implementation

Our science identifies critical wetlands, while our Science to Implementation support enhances access to and use of science for strategic conservation, from field implementation to funding and decision-making.

Conservation Capacity

We drive funding toward capacity that addresses wetland conservation bottlenecks and works through existing partnerships to increase the pace and scale of conservation. Adding capacity requires putting the right people with the right skills in the right place.

Strategic Communications

We use our communications to advance conservation through stories about partnership-driven conservation efforts, outcomes, and the tools that get the job done. Our communications strategically leverage different audiences, media, and platforms to spread messaging far and wide.
