Kari Gibson

State Government Affairs Manager, ConocoPhillips

Based in Austin, Texas, Kari and her team manage state government affairs for the entire Lower 48. She previously served as State Government Affairs Manager for the Rockies Region in Denver, Colorado. Kari joined ConocoPhillips’ federal team in 2013, based in Washington, DC, where she served for three years. During this period, she played an integral role in lifting the federal ban on U.S. crude oil exports in 2015. In her current role, Kari manages the ConocoPhillips Avian Species Habitat Team, which works to develop relationships with key conservation partners. The team works with JVs across the Lower 48 including the JV8 Initiative focused on conserving grassland bids. She joined the IWJV Management Board in 2021 after serving on the Playa Lakes Joint Venture Management Board from 2015-2020. She also serves on the ConocoPhillips SPIRIT of Conservation program board, a partnership with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. Prior to joining ConocoPhillips, Kari worked on Capitol Hill, both for the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and for a western U.S. House of Representatives member. Kari began her career at the U.S. Department of Agriculture where she served as Special Assistant to the Under Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment. Kari holds a B.S. in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University. She is a native of Bryan/College Station, Texas, and spends most of her free time with her family, outdoors, and traveling.
